HIGHNOTE / SAVANT RECORDS
PRESENTS THE THIRD CD BY ACCLAIMED JAZZ VOCALIST

PAMELA LUSS

“MAGNET”

FEATURING GUESTS HOUSTON PERSON AND FREDDY COLE, AND AN ALL-STAR JAZZ ENSEMBLE

IN STORES AND ONLINE JUNE 10, 2008

HIGHNOTE / SAVANT RECORDS proudly announces the release of the third album by jazz vocalist PAMELA LUSS. Magnet, which features the legendary saxophonist Houston Person and vocalist Freddy Cole as special guests, was produced by Todd Barkan of Jazz at Lincoln Center. The new disc includes Pamela’s vivid interpretations and fresh, original arrangements of standards by Frank Loesser (“I’ve Never Been In Love Before”), Henry Mancini (“Moon River”) and Rodgers & Hart (“Bewitched”), as well as newer melodies by Stephen Schwartz (“Day By Day”) and John Lennon (“Imagine”). She has also found gems from unexplored corners of the Great American Songbook, such as “I Wonder Where Our Love Has Gone,” by the influential blues pianist Buddy Johnson and “Come To The Party” by Big Band-era songwriter Joe Greene. Magnet will be available online and in stores on June 10, 2008.

Magnet features an all-star lineup of musicians including Joel Frahm on soprano saxophone; Walt Weiskopf on tenor saxophone and flute; Dominick Farinacci on trumpet and flugelhorn; John di Martino on piano; Richie Goods, Elias Bailey and George Mraz on bass; Victor Lewis on drums; and Steve Kroon on percussion. Arrangements are provided by John di Martino, Mike Moreno and Barney McAll.

Pamela Luss – a contemporary singer blessed with a beautiful voice, remarkable timing and sumptuous intonation – sings another healthy dose of classic standards and swinging jazz on the heels of her highly-acclaimed second CD Your Eyes. She will celebrate the release of the CD with her second appearance at Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola at Jazz at Lincoln Center as part of the Diet Coke Women’s Jazz Festival on September 22 and her second show at the Park Avenue nightclub Feinstein’s at Loews Regency on December 7. In the past year alone, she performed for the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon on national television, appeared at an all-star benefit produced by the Jazz Foundation of America, and performed at both the Jazz Improv Convention and the Mabel Mercer Foundation Cabaret Convention at Jazz At Lincoln Center’s Rose Hall. Pamela has also performed at Birdland, Sweet Rhythm, Enzo’s Jazz Club and Estia Cantina in The Hamptons, amongst other clubs throughout New York. She was personally selected by actor and filmmaker Matthew Modine to perform at a recent movie premiere.

Upon its release, Your Eyes immediately jumped to number three out of one hundred on Amazon.com’s “Vocal Jazz - Bestselling New & Future Releases” list, and also hit number eight in France on the “Top-Ten Best Selling Jazz Albums” chart on iTunes. Gaining international recognition, Pamela was featured on the cover of the Japanese music magazine Jazzyell in March 2006. Chris Loudon of Jazz Times wrote that she sings “quite possibly the finest-to-date interpretation of Alan and Marilyn Bergman’s ‘How Do You Keep The Music Playing?’, and added “She knows how to break [your heart] with excruciating tenderness.” In a rave review, In Tune International Magazine said “Pamela continues to prove that she is a most innovative performer. Here’s a handful of 12 songs masterfully delivered by a wonderful singer. Pamela has a knack for enhancing and enriching the already familiar music territories that we have loved throughout the years.”

Pamela’s first major break as a vocalist occurred during one of her annual concerts at Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall where she was heard by the well-known saxophonist Vincent Herring. He offered to produce her first album, There’s Something About You I Don’t Know, which features an all-star line-up, including Mulgrew Miller, Tom Harrell, Jeremy Pelt, Steve Turre, Russell Malone and Richie Goods. The album was released by Savant/HighNote to unanimously enthusiastic reviews in 2006. For more information, please visit www.pamelaluss.com.
